This half-day adventure mixes beautiful scenery with ancient history. It’s perfect for nature lovers, families, and anyone looking for something unique without doing a full-day trek.
The Benitez Trek Tour begins 30 kilometers from town, along the scenic Y-290 route, at Estancia Rupestre Patagonia. The trail goes through lenga forests and open land, with amazing views of Laguna Sofía and the impressive peaks of the Prat Mountain Range.

The walk is easy and lasts no more than 4 hours. Our local guides will share fun stories about the plants, animals, rocks, and people of this region. You don’t need to be an expert hiker — just wear comfy shoes and bring your curiosity.
This is more than a hike. It’s a journey into the heart of Patagonia, where nature, culture, and silence come together in one special experience.

The trek to Cerro Benitez is a unique experience that combines the natural beauty of Patagonia with the fascinating history of indigenous peoples. The hike begins at the information booth of Estancia Rupestre Patagonia. From there, you'll gradually ascend the eastern side of Cerro Benitez to an elevation of approximately 240 meters above sea level. At this point, you'll enter a native forest of lenga and ñire trees, where you'll have the chance to observe a variety of bird species. After about an hour of walking, you'll reach the viewpoint overlooking Laguna Sofía, where you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view. This spot is ideal for spotting condors and eagles that nest in the area. The hike continues along the slopes of the mountain, taking you into the caves where the first inhabitants of the region left their legacy in the form of ancient rock paintings. These paintings, dating back thousands of years, offer a glimpse into the past and provide an understanding of the culture and beliefs of the indigenous peoples. Finally, the trek concludes in the forest, returning to the same location where it began.
