The trek to Benitez hill is a unique experience that combines the natural beauty of Patagonia with the fascinating history of indigenous peoples. The hike begins at the information booth of Estancia Rupestre Patagonia. From there, you'll gradually ascend the eastern side of Cerro Benitez to an elevation of approximately 240 meters above sea level. At this point, you'll enter a native forest of lenga and ñire trees, where you'll have the chance to observe a variety of bird species. After about an hour of walking, you'll reach the viewpoint overlooking Laguna Sofía, where you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view. This spot is ideal for spotting condors and eagles that nest in the area. The hike continues along the slopes of the mountain, taking you into the caves where the first inhabitants of the region left their legacy in the form of ancient rock paintings. These paintings, dating back thousands of years, offer a glimpse into the past and provide an understanding of the culture and beliefs of the indigenous peoples. Finally, the trek concludes in the forest, returning to the same location where it began.
